Το Άστραχαν είναι πόλη της Ρωσίας στις εκβολές του ποταμού Βόλγα, στην Κασπία Θάλασσα. Από το 17ο αιώνα η πόλη αξιοποιήθηκε ως εμπορικός κόμβος μεταξύ Ανατολής και Δύσης προσελκύοντας έκτοτε εμπόρους και επιχειρηματίες διαφορετικών εθνικοτήτων, μεταξύ αυτών και Έλληνες.
