Ιμάμης είναι ο μουσουλμάνος ιερωμένος που είναι επιφορτισμένος με τη σωστή λειτουργία ενός τζαμιού ή ηγείται της προσευχής. Συχνά αποδίδεται ως χαρακτηρισμός και στους διδασκάλους του θρησκευτικού νόμου, ενώ στην αίρεση των Σιιτών η έννοια του ιμάμη είναι ευρύτερη των θρησκευτικών του καθηκόντων. Οι Σιιίτες ταυτίζουν τον ιμάμη με τον τέλειο ηγέτη, τον επιλεγμένο από το Μωάμεθ που θα οδηγήσει το λαό στη σωτηρία.
