With great success, on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Kondyleio Conference Center of Ancient Corinth, the American School of Classical Studies held the event entitled “Collective Memory: The People in the Photographs of the Corinth Excavation Archive.”
The initiative, warmly supported by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinthia, is part of the project “Showcasing the Cultural Content of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens with the Aid of Artificial Intelligence” (OPS 6004550), implemented under the “Digital Transformation 2021–2027” Program, with a budget of €1,036,720 + VAT and a contractor consortium consisting of Mainsys, Talent, Master, Datoptron, Datawise, and ICCS.
The aim of the event was to activate collective memory through an innovative crowdsourcing action, which invites the public to contribute their knowledge and memories to the identification of individuals and moments captured in the unique photographic archive of the Ancient Corinth excavations.
Public participation was remarkable. People of all ages, with close ties to the area, filled the hall, expressing emotion and enthusiasm for the opportunity to personally contribute to highlighting the history of the local community and the region’s long archaeological tradition. The response to the presentation of the digital crowdsourcing platform was excellent, confirming the power of technology in the service of memory and culture.
The American School’s initiatives continue dynamically, with the next milestones being the preparation and presentation of the overall project. Save the date: Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Cotsen Hall amphitheater (9 Anapiron Polemou Street, Athens), where the major project presentation event will take place.
Stay tuned – collective memory is making history.
